There’s nothing faster than the Tarmac SL8. The reason? The combination of aerodynamics, light weight and ride quality that until recently seemed impossible. Eight generations later and more than two decades in development, it’s not just the fastest Tarmac ever – it’s also the fastest race bike in the world.
Races aren’t won on aero or light weight alone – it’s all about speed. And to get there, you need to create an uncompromising combination of aero, light weight, stiffness and comfort. Our Ride Science team simulated races with real-world data and found the Tarmac SL8 to be the fastest road bike ever built on the biggest roads – 16.6 seconds faster over 40km, 128 seconds faster at the Milan San Remo and 20 seconds faster up the legendary Tourmalet climb.
100% AERO – we put aero elements where they’re needed, not just where they look good. And so we’ve created our most aerodynamic road bike yet. Yes, more so than the Venge. With the Speed Sniffer, the Tarmac’s new cone, clean air is optimized for maximum advantage. By moving the head tube back (which determines the head tube angle), the leading edge of the head tube is much sharper and the resulting shape has much less aerodynamic drag. Taking advantage of new UCI rules, the Tarmac SL8 has the narrowest, most aerodynamic seatpost we’ve ever made, so dirty air around your legs flows cleaner back. Victory tastes sweet, right?
MINIMUM WEIGHT, MAXIMUM AERODYNAMICS – Drawing on lessons learned from the Aethos, the Tarmac SL8 is designed to meet minimum UCI requirements while offering a 100% aero construction. The team created an incredible 685-gram frame, which is 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other frame on the World Tour*. We also applied what we learned from the Aethos to prioritize lightness in the down tube, seat tube, and tailpipe of the bike. The frame shape carries the load so efficiently that there’s no need for extra carbon layers. *Unless you count the time Kasper Asgreen rode our 585-gram Aethos frame on a stage of the Tour de France.
RIDES LIKE A ROCKET, HANDS LIKE A GOODBYE: With an optimized stiffness-to-weight ratio (33% better than the SL7), the Tarmac SL8 delivers legendary handling, aggressive response, and world championship-proven geometry that’s next level. The bike is stiffer at the pedals, more precise at the handlebars and more comfortable in the saddle, so much so that it sets a new standard for comfort in racing bikes. Thanks to our Rider-First Engineering, all riders, regardless of size, can enjoy ride quality and control that has never been seen before. In the saddle, the Tarmac SL8 offers 6% more comfort, floating over rough terrain and offering a smoothness that is not very common in the demanding world of racing bikes. The Tarmac geometry and clearance for the 32mm tires are identical to that of the SL7, ensuring easy adaptation and the possibility of using larger tires when necessary.
BEYOND GENDER: There are more differences between two male riders than between a man and a woman. Gender alone does not provide enough data to be the only factor when designing a bike. So creating bikes just for men or women is a thing of the past. All riders can enjoy the benefits of the Tarmac SL8. It's time to Go Beyond Gender.
The S-Works Tarmac SL8 is built with the best components. It comes with a full Shimano Dura-Ace 9200 Di2 groupset with dual-sided power meter and a set of tubeless-compatible Roval Rapide CLX II wheels, which perfectly complement the world's fastest frame. All S-Works Tarmac SL8 models also feature a Roval Rapide cockpit, designed to reduce weight and offer the most aerodynamic leading edge possible.
